GSSG
The Graphical Simulation Scenario Generator (GSSG) allows easy and accurate design of mission exercise scenarios for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control applications. The system is designed to support the concepts and requirements of today’s Air Sovereignty mission, focusing on simulation of force elements through both radar and tactical data link exchange.
Today's problem
Traditional simulation exercise planning is to a large extent based on textual scripting requiring the simulation exercise crew to go through a long and complex training program to learn a programming language which is used to define and design each mission exercise scenario. A typical training program can range from 4 to 8 months and tends to be oriented towards mastering the technical details and syntax of an awkward and complex scripting language rather than focusing on the direct task of setting up and planning a successful exercise mission. Furthermore a great deal of valuable mission equipment time is spent in rehearsing, timing and debugging the scripts before they can be delivered to the operations section for use.
The Solution
GSSG addresses all of the problems above through a simple, easy to learn graphical interface utilising computer platforms that today’s warfighter is already familiar with.GSSG will:
- Shorten training time to weeks or days instead of months
- Immediately increase simulation crew productivity
- Eliminate the need for on-equipment time for exercise planning
- Allow generation of scenarios for multiple Air Defense or Air Surveillance platforms
- Maximize situation awareness in exercise design, allowing the scenario designer to focus only on the mission requirements
Reuse and Standardization
Since GSSG can generate simulation scenarios for multiple Air Defense or Air Surveillance platforms, exercise design and generation can be done at a remote or central site for more than one system. This eliminates the extensive training time needed for scenario design personnel at each center or system they work with through their carrier.
Standard Technology
GSSG uses commercial off the shelf hardware and technology and will easily integrate into the existing computing and networking environment at the Control Site or a Remote Support Site. Simulation personnel will not have to learn how to master complex scripting languages or operating systems such as UNIX VMS. GSSG is based on today’s standard computing environment:- Intel Windows NT Platform
- Familiar point and click interface concepts
- Standard Windows peripherals, printers and networking
Training
The GSSG product contains a complete training and tutorial package. Through multimedia technology and interactive lessons the student is led through all aspects of simulation scenario generation using the tool. GSSG contains a context sensitive help system, making help available for every screen, window field. The GSSG tutorial system is based on industry standard HTML technology, making extensions and customization for each installation and mission requirements easy.Target Systems
The GSSG system can be configured with script generator modules for different air defense or air surveillance systems. This allows generation of the same scenario for use on multiple target systems.
Functionality in each target generator is based on the existing simulation capabilities of the target system. In all cases the simulation scenario is developed in the same way and all features are available during the scenario design phase.
GSSG is in normally installed as a front end processor to existing simulation applications or systems. This is a risk free integration method which maximizes utilization of investment in proven and tested on-line simulation systems.
GSSG Configurations
The GSSG product is available in several configurations based on the requirements at each control or support site.
The GSSG Workstation
The basic GSSG system is delivered as a complete integrated workstation based on commercial PC hardware. The configuration contains removable media systems and is suitable for installation in a RED classified network computing environment. Different hardware configurations are available upon request based on local requirements.
GSSG Base System
The GSSG base system is capable of generating simulation data for radar applications. Basic flight paths can be scripted, including both active and passive radar data. Performance characteristics of different aircraft types can be used. All flight parameters are fully scriptable/modifiable.Tactical Data Link Upgrade
The GSSG base system can be configured with a Tactical Data Link which will allow generation of a simulation stream, representing flight paths on different types of tactical data links. Functionality included in the Tactical Data Link upgrade is dependent on the simulation and data link capabilities of the target system.Flight Plan Data Upgrade
The GSSG system can be configured with a Flight Plan Data Upgrade which allows generation of standard ICAO format flight plan data from scripted flight path information.
Upgrades and Support
GSSG is developed by Kögun Air Surveillance Systems, a company involved in development and fielding of real time and control applications both in the defense and commercial sectors since 1989.
Each GSSG site installation includes a 12 month warranty period for hardware and software. Most GSSG hardware components carry a 3 year manufacturers warranty. Kögun offers a comprehensive maintenance and support plan for GSSG customers. Two basic maintenance packages are offered.
Product Upgrade Plan
The GSSG product upgrade plan includes a subscription service for all licensed product software upgrades. In addition product support is available through telephone and/or electronic mail.
Site Service Plan
The GSSG site service plan includes a comprehensive site maintenance contract for the GSSG installation, including maintenance of site specific software / requirements including target system interfaces/generators in case of changes in the target system interfaces.
Site Requirements
A GSSG software only license is available for site installation where a dedicated GSSG workstation can not be accommodated or for integration with other existing applications. On site support for installation, integration and testing with existing systems is available.
