Since 1996, Kögun has provided services and software for Control of Powerplants and distribution systems for Reykjavik Energy. Our projects span both the Nesjavellir Geothermal Powerplant and the Reykjavik District Heating water distribution systems for the entire Reykjavik area.

Life Cycle Operation and Maintenance

Operation and Maintenance of large mission critical systems is an area where we have provided services to the US Air Force and the Government of Iceland since 1997.    Kögun provides life-cycle support for the Iceland Air Defense System (IADS) which provides long range air surveillance and air defense capabilities to NATO forces in the North Atlantic area.     

The IADS system provides unsurpassed connectivity, with four FPS-117 3D radars and more than 20 different data link connections to both Europe and the US thereby providing a tactcal surveillance bridge across the Atlantic.    Complete hardware and software support is provided by Kögun around the clock every day of the year.  

IADS is one of the first systems of it's type to by developed using almost exlusively Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) components.    This has required a different apporach to operation and maintenance activities where outdated components must be replaced as they readh an end-of-life status with the applicable manufacturer and the system constantly re-engineered to maintain an ever-green operational condition.     As a result, the system expected lifetime has been continuously extended and is targeted significantly beyond the original expectiations while maintaining a state-of-the-art technical platform.    To the customer this has obvious advantages where lifecycle costs are minimized and operational reliability greatly increased.
